It's original name, 'Paradepaartje', is a wordplay in Dutch that can't be translated. A fellow water colorist had this wonderful alternative: 'She said yes'. The somewhat uncomfortable  pose of the man suggests something like that, the kiss seems to confirm it. As do the first warm sunrays of early spring. 

The painting took fourth place in the Realism/Impressionism - Landscape category at the American Art Awards 2026.
